Tai Tokerau Emergency Housing Charitable Trust (TTEHCT) is a registered charity providing safe, supportive short-term housing for Northland’s homeless.
We meet the immediate needs of adults and families without a home with compassion, offering a positive living environment where dignity is respected.
Alongside this, we walk with our tenants to strengthen life skills and connect them with services that help them transition into secure, sustainable housing.
Our Emergency Housing Trust manages five transitional accommodation properties in Whangarei, including a 7 unit site and an 8 unit site for whānau with tamariki, a large 4-bedroom house for single men, a large 4-bedroom house for single women, and a 3 bedroom property (Whare Manaaki) for a larger whānau. The rooms and units provide a temporary housing solution, and the accommodation is rented for an average of 12 weeks.
Our kaupapa goes beyond providing emergency housing. Each tenant and their whānau are supported through wrap-around care that includes tenancy support, live-in house manager support, and an allocated social worker to create personalised housing and care plans. With holistic, whānau-centred services and connections to trusted community providers, we help people build stability, strengthen life skills, and move towards long-term independence.
As a charitable trust, we rely on the generosity of our community to help break the cycle of homelessness and provide wrap-around support for whānau in need. Financial donations and sponsorships help us deliver essential services and plan for the future, while contributions of food and personal hygiene products directly support our tenants in their daily lives.
