Tai Tokerau Emergency Housing Charitable Trust (TTEHCT) is a Whangarei based non-profit organisation.
Compassionate Response: We respond compassionately to the immediate needs of the homeless by providing a positive, supportive and safe living environment.
Transformative Engagement: We engage and work alongside our tenants to develop individualised Housing and Action Care plans and set realistic goals, promoting change and enhancing the life skills needed to sustain a home.
Building Connections: We connect our tenants with the appropriate services and agencies to ensure their Housing and Action Care plans can be implemented and followed through.
Enabling steps to stability: We enable tenants to make steps along a pathway towards a more stable living situation and into secure housing.
Governance, Leadership and Communication: We provide effective governance, leadership and communication that enables TTEHCT to be sustainable and achieve its goals and purposes.
TTEHCT manages four of its’ own emergency accommodation properties in Whangarei – a 7 unit ex-motel (Aotea) for whanau with tamariki, an 8 unit site (Kamo) for whanau with tamariki, a large 4 bdrm house for single men and a stand-alone 3 bdrm property (Whare Manaaki) for a larger whanau. Together these provide 20 rooms/units for singles, couples and/or sole parent whanau to rent for an average of around 12 weeks. We have also collaborated with Manukau Urban Maori Authority (MUMA) where we provide House Management at a 6 bdrm residence (Whare Parihaka) within the CBD area of Whangarei that caters for up to 6 single men released from prison reintegrating back into the community.
Unfortunately due to the high demands for housing we can not always house those who are in need.
For Families:
This property is a block of seven units for single parents or couples with children.
The units are furnished with the basics and there is a shared laundry.
A house manager is on site and the property is fenced and gated and has a wonderful playground for the children.
The TTEHCT office is also sited here with office staff and a social worker to work with the tenants.
For Men:
This property is a four bedroom furnished home with shared facilities.
There is a house manager on site who also works alongside the men.
This home can house up to six men at one time.
